Move Over Nandita Das...

Happy New Year from all of us at Queeristan!

We hope 2009 has some great things in store (ie. economic stability, removal of IPC377, that John Abraham sex tape, etc). Well one thing that will definitely not be a part of 2009 is George W. Bush. President-Elect Barack Obama will be taking office in less than two weeks, effectively ending the controversial 8-year tenure of Dubya. It seems as if the whole world is celebrating commemorating this event in their own way.

Kunaal Roy Kapur's The President is Coming will be George Bush's Bollywood send-off. It was set to release at the Novemeber 28th, but was pushed back due to the Mumbai attacks. The film is set during the President's diplomatic visit to India. A group of twenty-somethings compete to be the face of New India and the chance to shake the President's hand. It is meant to be a comedic satire spotted with political incorrectness.

Now if any of you have heard of this movie, chances are it's due the press attention of Kokona Sen Sharma's role as a lesbian. The details of her character (other than her sexuality) are scarce, but it should be interesting to see how Sharma takes on this part.

I'm crossing my fingers for an accurate portrayal of a lesbian in a Bollywood movie in 2009. One can only dream..
