Learning a thing or two from an older queer desi.

The Humsafar Trust was started in 2004 by a group of homosexual men who wished to provide support for the MSM community in the Mumbai area. Since then, the group has grown immeasurably, taking part in evidence-based research on HIV, creating support groups, and providing health services to the queer community.

In a recent, eye-opening interview, Ashok Row Kavi, founder of Humsafar Trust, tells us about what it was like being out in 1984, the influence of his training as a Hindu monk, and the Humsafar Trust's role in preventing sexual minorities from being put last in line for health care.

I think someone who very occasionally incorporates of kink or same-sex activity into a largely vanilla, heterosexual sex life would not usually be described as a sexual minority.
